CES 2014: Small, but mighty

Over the past week, we have covered products from some of the biggest companies in the world. ASUS ,  Samsung , Lenovo , and Sony  are all we known and respected companies, that get their products out a little easier than others. In addition to all the big-dogs in tech, CES is home to many small companies and start-ups. These small companies show off their best stuff at CES to get the word out for their latest projects. There are a lot of products that you really don't want, but there are many products that are actually fresh and innovative. Here are our small company favorites from CES 2014. Pebble Steel Pebble made a gigantic splash last year at CES 2013. There were smartwatches out before Pebble, like Metawatch, but none of them were very good. They usually either thrust a mess of information at you and cannot handle notifications, or can handle notifications but cannot give you enough information. Pebble's original model smartwatch was the first to handle everythi

CES 2014: Sony

CES is almost at its end, but there's still much more news to watch. Throughout the week, we have brought you wrap-ups of the best products from ASUS , Samsung , and Lenovo . Phones, tablets, TVs, and hybrid computers are some of the biggest stars of CES 2014. Here are our favorites from Sony. Mobile Xperia Z1 Compact Most Android phones are very, very big. 4.5-5 inch displays are the norm know, and they are getting even bigger. Millions of people buy even bigger phones, dare we say "phablets", that can range from 5.5 inches to 6.8 inches. This makes Android manufacturers think that everyone  wants a larger phone, and that smaller phones should be reserved for the low-end spectrum of the market. Many people have turned to the iPhone for a high-end small smartphone, because there are no smaller-screened high-end Android phones. Despite what most companies think, there is a large group of people that want a smaller Android phone that still has high-end specs. Son

CES 2014: Lenovo

Today is day two of CES 2014, and even more things are kicking off. T-Mobile had their Uncarrier conference today, and even more people are getting their hands on the latest and greatest in technology. Lenovo announced some of their new electronics here at CES, and some of them are the best in their categories. These are some of our Lenovo favorites. Mobile Thinkpad 8 No offense to the Microsoft Tribe out there, but most Windows 8 tablets have not been very competitive. They usually have low resolution displays, boring designs, and some unique quirk that makes you really not want to buy one. The only really remarkable Windows 8 tablets have been Microsoft's own Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. At CES 2014, Lenovo changed that by releasing their Thinkpad 8. It is not a competitor to the Surfaces or iPad, but towards the iPad Mini. The Thinkpad 8 has an 8.3 inch 1,900 x 1,200 display, a 2.4GHZ quad-core Bay Trail Intel Atom processor, eight megapixel rear-facing camera, front-

CES 2014: Samsung

Despite all of the breaking news that happened yesterday, CES is just kicking off today. The show floor is officially open, and thousands of tech reporters will flood it to get hands-on with all the recently unveiled devices. Samsung started early and showed off their new electronics yesterday. With even more news to come, here is Samsung's best of CES 2014. Mobile Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Tab Pro 12.2 Samsung, like before, believes that you need tablets in EVERY size to bridge the gap between your phone and laptop. They have released brand new Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Tab Pro 12.2 to bring the professionals into the tablet market. With LTE and Wifi flavors with 2.3GHZ quad-core Snapdragon 800 and Exynos Octa-core processors, these new tablets are not too different spec-wise from the older Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. 3GB of RAM help to power the two tablets gigantic 12.2 inch 2,560 x 1,600 display. The extra-large screens do allow for four-window multitasking

CES 2014: ASUS

CES is one of the most important technology shows of the year. Thousands of tech reporters from around the world trek out to the Las Vegas convention center to report on some of the first electronics announced of the year. Some people might say that CES is dying, but there are a few companies that would say otherwise. Huawei, Sony, LG, Nvidia, and ASUS release some of their most important products every year at CES. Numerous smaller companies and start-ups also release hundreds of products at CES. Some of these, like Pebble and Oculus Rift, actually make real world advances outside of CES. With so much news happening all at once, we are here to bring you a wrap-up of each company's news and unveilings. Mobile          Zenphone(s) More and more companies are starting to make cheap, unlocked smart phones that you might actually want to use. Blu has made some decent and inexpensive handsets, but Motorola made the first very good cheap unlocked handset with their Moto G. ASU

Tech & Company's Best of 2013

Like every year, 2013 has been a whirlwind of a year for consumer electronics. As for laptops Haswell has become the norm, 1080p is almost a requirement for high-end laptops (we're looking at you Macbook Air), and they have gotten even thinner than ever. As for tablets, quad-core processors have improved and 1080p or greater screens have almost become the standard. Great 1080p displays, good cameras, and excellent quad-core processors can be found on most high-end smartphones today. Another improvement in 2013 was that inexpensive smartphones have become surprisingly decent. It is not very hard to find great handsets at low unlocked prices anymore. With all the great and newly improved products that were released this year, there were a few that stood out above the crowd. Some of these devices make other devices easier to use, and others make people even more productive. Here are Tech & Co.'s favorite products of 2013 January:  Pebble Smartwatch 2013 was the year
